LINCOLN COUNTY -- A Duke Energy utility
truck and Chevy Cavalier were involved in a head
on collision Sunday night in the western part of
Lincoln County. The accident happened on Magnolia
Grove Road, off Philadelphia Church Road, around
8:45 p.m.
Initial radio traffic indicated one vehicle had
run on top of the other, pinning one person
inside and leaving that person unconcious. Dustin
Lee Baker, the passenger in the Chevy driven by
Christina Chaney, was airlifted to Carolinas
Medical Center in Charlotte with a broken rib and
hip.
According to trooper R.H. Lanier with the North
Carolina Highway Patrol, the driver of the
utility truck didn't suffer any injuries.
"The accident is still under investigation,
but it looks like the passenger vehicle crosed
the center line in the curve," said Lanier
early Monday morning.
Charges may be pending against Chaney, who was
treated and released for a broken foot. Magnolia
Grove Road was shut down while the accident was
investigated, the patients transoprted and the
vehicles towed away.
