LINCOLNTON By law, a
vehicle that parks in a handicapped space needs
to display a placard. Generally, those placards
hang on a rear view mirror. However, a Lincolnton
woman has been charged with stealing a placard
from a vehicle at Wal-Mart on North Generals
Boulevard Friday afternoon.
Around 2 p.m., officers were called to the store
to reports that Jacqueline Elaine Caldwell, 31,
of 113 Thornwood Lane, Stanley, had reached into
a pickup and taken a placard.
Officer R.D. McCalister said he found Caldwell
inside the store with the placard in her
pocketbook.
She told me she thought it was her
uncles pickup truck, said McCalister.
She said she wanted to borrow the placard
from him.
Caldwell was taken to the Magistrates
Office on a felony charge of larceny from a motor
vehicle. She was given a $5,500 unsecured bond
and released.
Police say while not common in Lincolnton,
sometimes placards can be easily removed from
vehicles.
Officer McCalister has advice for motorists who
have the placards.
Keep your vehicle locked, said
McCalister.
