CHERRYVILLE - William “Will” Ray Eaker, age 93, formerly of South Mountain Street, Cherryville, died Monday, June 29, 2009 at Carolina Medical Center, Lincolnton. Will was born in Lincoln County, September 24, 1916, the son of the late Martin Luther and Mary Elizabeth Sigmon Eaker. Will was retired from Carlton Yarn Mill as a section supervisor after 40 years of employment and a member of the First Presbyterian Church, Cherryville. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, Viola Smith Eaker, brothers, Earl, John and Herman Eaker and sisters, Gladys Newton and Nell Stroupe.

* Survivors: Daughter: Anita Eaker Stroupe and husband Rick, of Cherryville
* Son: William Kenneth Eaker and wife Karen, of Terrell, N.C.
* Granddaughters: Tonya Harris Stroupe, Lauren Eaker
* Great Granddaughter: Kayla Ray Stroupe
* Twin Sisters: Hazel Eaker
* Rachel E. Randall, both of Cherryville
* Special Friend, Hilma Pruett


Funeral Services will be conducted at 3:00PM Wednesday at the First Presbyterian Church, with Rev. Dr. Billy Lowe officiating. The family will receive friends from 1:30PM to 2:45PM prior to the service at the church. At other times they will be at the home of Rick and Anita Stroupe, 134 Cricket Creek, Cherryville. Burial at City Cemetery.

Special thanks to Lincoln Nursing Center for all the love and devotion to William Eaker whom they affectionately called “Pappy”.
