CHERRYVILLE - William “Bill” Anthony, 83 of 307 Roy Eaker Road, died June 6, 2009 at Cleveland Regional Medical Center, he was born April 3 1926 in Lincoln County a son of the late Nathan Lester Anthony and Ila Smith Anthony. A graduate of North Brook High School, attended Evan’s Business College, in Gastonia and a U. S. Army WWII veteran, He was retired from Blackstone Electric accounting department and formerly employed at Carolina Freight Carriers.

Bill was a member of First Presbyterian Church, a member of the American Legion Post 100, where he worked with the baseball program and was a Finance officer.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by brothers P.F. “Bud” Anthony, Glenn Anthony, Alton “Toby” Anthony, Ralph Anthony, Ellis Anthony, sisters, Inez Pruitt and Pure Hull.

Survivors include his wife Ava Mauney Anthony of the home, a son Alan Anthony of Cherryville, two grandsons Zeke Anthony and Evan Anthony both of Cherryville, a sister Bertha Martin of Cherryville.

Funeral services will be held at First Presbyterian Church, Monday June 8, 2009 at 2:00 p.m. with Dr. Rev. Bill Lowe officiating. The family will receive friends prior to the funeral, June 8, 2009 from 1:00 - 1:45 pm. Burial will follow in City Memorial Cemetery, Cherryville.
