
LOCAL GRADUATE NAMED
WCU UNIVERSITY SCHOLAR

IRON STATION Emily Love of Iron
Station was one of 29 students given a special
honor from her alma-mater, Western Carolina
University. She was named a university scholar.
Recently, Western Carolina graduated more than
1,000 spring graduates.
To receive the scholar designation, Love and her
28 fellow graduates had to achieve a grade-point
average of 3.90 or better during their entire
undergraduate tenure.
A news release from WCU indicated several other
local students graduated as well.
Jeneane Nicole Efird of Cherryville received her
bachelor's degree in interior design.
Joseph Daniel Mullins of Denver received his
bachelor's degree in communication, cum laude.
From Iron Station, Western graduates were Love,
chemistry, summa cum laude, and Nicholas Allen
McKendree, electrical and computer engineering
technology, magna cum laude.
Also from Iron Station, Angelia M. Stump earned
her Master of Arts in teaching comprehensive
education, special education and learning
disabilities and mental retardation.
Dorus Calvin Thornburg of Lincolnton earned his
Master of Arts in history.
Also from Lincolnton, Western graduates were
Jessica Lynne Cloninger, communication sciences
and disorders, cum laude, and Elliott Thomas
Froehbrodt, social sciences education.
From Maiden, bachelor's degrees were conferred
upon Mary Elizabeth Gilbert in business
administration and law and Emily Lyn Robbins in
interior design.
Sarah Beth Mason of Sherrills Ford received her
bachelor's degree in mathematics.
From Stanley, recipients of bachelor's degrees
were Amanda Leigh Carter, interior design; Erick
Lamont Gregory, business administration with a
concentration in entrepreneurship; Cory Marks
Hege, psychology, and Brodie Eugene Lowe,
English.
