SUSPECT FIGHTS POLICE, GETS TASERED

By Jon Mayhew

LINCOLNTON – A Lincolnton man fights police and ends up getting hit with a taser.

The incident started just after midnight Sunday at a residence on Sherrill Avenue. According to officer R. Harrington’s incident report, he responded to the call of a fight at Jimmy Watts’ house.

Harrington said Watts was yelling so loud at another subject, that the officer could hear Watts cursing and yelling from the street.

When Harrington first approached Watts, Watts charged the officer. Harrington pushed Watts back with his hands and advised the suspect to stay back.

Watts yelled an expletive at Harrington, then charged him again. That’s when Harrington deployed his taser twice, for a total of ten seconds.

Harrington then advised Sgt. Jeremy Wilson and also called Lincoln EMS per police department procedures.

The incident report indicated Watts was intoxicated at the time of the incident.

According to the department’s Use of Force report, Watts didn’t require transport to the hospital. Watts, 30, was charged with assaulting a government official and resisting arrest.
