LINCOLNTON -- Mrs. Virgie Mae Harkey, age 90, of the Brian Center in Lincolnton and formally of Bailey Springs Dr. Lincolnton died on Sunday January 25, 2009.

Her funeral service will be Tuesday 11:00am at Lincoln Avenue Baptist Church. Her body will lie in state thirty minutes prior to the service. Burial will follow in Hollybrook Cemetery. The family will receive friends Monday night at Warlick Funeral Home from 6:00pm to 8:00pm.

Mrs. Harkey was a native of Cleveland County born May 8, 1918 daughter of the late Harrison C. and Cora Lee Scism Whitaker. Mrs. Harkey worked in the textile industry before retiring. She was preceded in death by her husband Woodrow B. Harkey and one son Gary David Harkey.

She is survived by two sons Darrell and Scott Harkey both of Lincolnton; one sister Ethel W. Lee of Shelby; seven grandchildren, and eleven great grandchildren.
