LINCOLNTON – Mrs. Velma Faye Sparks Robinson, age 89 of Lincolnton, died on Tuesday, June 30, 2009.

Her funeral service will be held today at 3:00 p.m. at First Baptist Church with Rev. Dr. Stanley Spence and Rev. Dr. Dixon Free officiating. Burial will follow in Forest Lawn Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 2:00 until 2:45 p.m. prior to the service on Friday at the church.

Mrs. Robinson was born August 18, 1919 in Cleveland County to the late Avery Roland Sparks and Ada Grigg Sparks. She was preceded in death by her husband, Howard Holt Robinson and son Monty Holt Robinson. She taught 6th grade and coached basketball at High Shoals School for over 17 years. Mrs. Robinson was President of Robinson Concrete Products Co., Inc., served on the Board of Directors of Gaston Skills, Inc., Gaston-Lincoln Area Mental Health Board, deacon at First Baptist Church, Sunday School teacher at First Baptist Church, helped form the Lincoln County Association for Retarded Citizens, and was a Member of Lincolnton South Cedar Street Group Home Board.

She is survived by a daughter, Harriet Robinson Dobbins and husband David of Lincolnton; son, Henry Howard Robinson and wife Jenny of Colleyville, TX; grandchildren Donna Robin Dobbins Tedder and husband Daniel of Crouse, Tait Howard Robinson of Denver, Colo., and Dr. Kyle Todd Robinson of Memphis, Tenn.; and great-grandchildren Jackson and Blake Tedder of Crouse.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials may be made to First Baptist Church Family Life Center, 201 Robin Road, Lincolnton, N.C. 28092, Hospice of Lincoln County, 107 N. Cedar Street, Lincolnton, N.C. 28092, or to Holy Angels, 6600 W. Wilkinson Blvd, Belmont, N.C. 28012-2796.
