BESSEMER CITY - Tom Hoyle, 77, passed away July 14, 2009, at his residence.

He was born in Gaston County on June 22, 1932, son of the late G.E. "Ess" Hoyle and the late Rosa Lee Poteat.

Mr. Hoyle was a member of First Baptist Church in Bessemer City. He was a Masonic Lodge and Crowders Mountain Shriner, a member of American Legion Honor Guard Post 243 in Bessemer City and a retired volunteer fireman for the Bessemer City Volunteer Fire Department. He was also a Corporal in the U.S. Army.

Survivors include his wife, Ginger Splawn Hoyle of the home; sons, Chris and David Hoyle of Bessemer City; brother and sister-in-law, Alan Hoyle and wife, Angie of Bessemer City; sisters and brothers-in-law, Kathleen Dameron of Columbia, SC, Jane Crosby and husband, Howard of Vale, sisters-in-law and brother-in-law, Jean Weir of Belmont, Carol McDonald and husband, Robert of Gastonia and numerous nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be from 6 until 7:30 p.m. Thursday at Greene Funeral Service - West Chapel in Gastonia.

Burial is private.

In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to Westview Baptist Church, 3385 Fairview Drive, Bessemer City, NC 28016 or to First Baptist Church of Bessemer City, 107 E. Washington Avenue, Bessemer City, NC 28016.
