Authorities investigating early morning attack

Police detectives are investigating a sexual assault of a Maiden woman somewhere in Lincolnton during the early morning hours Wednesday.

According to police sources, the woman said she was taken from one area of Lincolnton to another area of the city by an acquaintance, where the male acquaintance "forced himself" upon the woman.

The investigation into the incident is in its early stages according to police. Drugs and/or alcohol were involved according to the incident report on file at the Lincolnton Police Department.

Authorities could not provide any additional information on the case.
