TEENAGE PEDESTRIAN STRUCK

By Jon Mayhew [LINCOLNTON] – A 15-year-old Lincolnton teenager is struck by a car late Friday afternoon and is taken to a Charlotte hospital.

Lincolnton Police officer Dan Renn investigated the accident just before 5pm on Highway 27 east.

According to Renn, the driver of the vehicle was identified as Chad Francis Smith, 39, of Love Memorial School Road.

“He was traveling east on Highway 27, from Newbold Street towards Roper Drive,” said Renn. “Neither the driver or pedestrian saw each other.”

The pedestrian – 15-year-old Gary Paul Moose of Freeman Road – was standing in the center lane of Highway 27 and started crossing the road at the time of the incident.

Moose was transported to Carolinas Medical Center Charlotte with possible life-threatening injuries. A condition update wasn’t available on Moose as of early Tuesday morning.
