By Jon Mayhew

IRON STATION -- A Shelby
teenager is jailed and facing an armed
robbery charge for allegedly stealing $9
worth of school fund-raising cash from a
young boy.
Detective Mark Stamey identified the
suspect as Joey Jay Bridges, 19, 1027
Mitchell Street, Shelby. He is charged
with one count of felony robbery with a
dangerous weapon.
The incident happened on Jan. 11, when
the suspect entered the victim's Iron
Station residence on Stagecoach Road with
a friend. While in the residence he
pretended to purchase a candy bar and
grabbed the money from the boy and ran
out of the residence. The victims
mother confronted the teen and during the
argument the suspect displayed a firearm.
He eventually returned the money and left
the scene.
Bridges was arrested Friday and placed
under a $5,000 secured bond. He has been
released from the Harven A. Crouse
Detention Center.
