NORTH BROOK -- The North Carolina
Highway Patrol has identified a woman killed Sunday night in a
bizzare weather-related accident off Highway 274 in western
Lincoln County.
Emily Michelle Boston, 19, of Ed Willis Road, Vale, was going
home according to investigators. She was traveling down Ed Willis
Road when a tree fell across the roadway, becoming entangled in
power lines. Without enough time to react, Boston's car went
under the tree, shearing the roof off the vehicle. Boston's
vehicle came to rest about 50 feet from the tree on the right
side of the road.
Trooper S. Boyles said the impact didn't decapitate the teenager;
she was pronounced dead at the scene from blunt force trauma to
the head.
Part of Ed Willis Road was closed into early Monday morning for
workers to remove the tree. Duke Power was called in to restore
power to about 40 customers who lost power when the tree fell.
