A 34-year-old Lincolnton man pleads
guilty Thursday to charges he broke into
Keever Pharmacy last year.
Superior Court Judge Timothy S. Kincaid
sentenced Jamie Sutton to between 107 and
138 months in prison.
Suttons trial was continued Tuesday
after fainting at the beginning of the
session. Attorney T.J. Wilson said he
represented Sutton during his latest
appearances in court.
I guess thats one way to get
a continuance, said Wilson.
Motions made by Wilson on Tuesday were
denied. Judge Kincaid ordered Sutton to
sit down.
When Sutton went over to his chair, he
collapsed. Courtroom witnesses said
instead of coming to her sons aid,
his mother ran out of the courtroom.
Assistant district attorney Gywnn Radeker
said he heard Sutton might try to faint
in court on Thursday.
I guess he decided not to,
said Radeker.
In August 2008, Sutton broke into Keever
Pharmacy, which is located near Carolinas
Medical Center Lincoln.
Police detective Chuck McGinley was on
duty at the hospital and heard the
breaking and entering call. While en
route to the pharmacy, he passed Sutton
in his motorized wheelchair.
He had a bag on his lap, said
McGinley, adding he turned around and
arrested Sutton at the front entrance of
the hospital.
As part of the plea deal, Sutton also
plead guilty to being a habitual felon.
Sutton was convicted in 2008 of breaking
and entering into Temple Baptist Church
in Lincolnton. He was also charged in the
fire that destroyed the church, but the
charges were dropped as part of a plea
deal. He served eight months in prison.
