COLLAPSES IN COURT TUESDAY

Mayhew [LINCOLNTON]
A man on trial for
breaking into a pharmacy in Lincolnton
collapses at the beginning of his
superior court trial Tuesday.
Jamie Sutton, 34, was on trial for
breaking into Keever Pharmacy back in
August 2008.
Authorities said Sutton had made several
motions all of which were denied
and was told by presiding judge
Timothy S. Kincaid to sit down.
Sutton sat down, then fell out of his
chair.
Detective Chuck McGinley said at the time
of the break-in, he was working hospital
security when an alarm call came in to
city police.
McGinley initially passed Sutton, who was
carrying a bag of change, in his
motorized wheelchair minutes after the
alarm call. Sutton was apprehended in the
parking lot of Carolinas Medical Center
Lincoln.
Tuesday, Sutton was taken to Carolinas
Medical Center Lincoln, treated, then
taken back to the Harven A. Crouse
Detention Center.
Sutton was convicted in late 2007 for
breaking and entering into Temple Baptist
Church in Lincolnton on July 25, 2007. He
served eight months and was released.
The church caught on fire after the
break-in and burned to the ground. While
Sutton was charged with the church fire,
the charges were later dropped.
