STABBING VICTIM CHARGED WITH FILING FALSE REPORT

By Jon Mayhew

LINCOLNTON -- A Cedar Street man who claimed to be a stabbing victim has been charged with filing a false report.

According to investigating officer Billy Burgin, Robert Wayne Mason came to the police department Sunday morning and told officers he was stabbed by his girlfriend the night before.

Burgin said he thought something wasn't right.

"He said he was stabbed Saturday night and waited to report it Sunday morning," said Burgin.

During the investigation, Burgin said Mason's girlfriend said the supposid victim got mad during an argument and stabbed himself.

Burgin said Mason admitted to making up the incident because he wanted to get revenge on his girlfriend for claiming he assaulted her several weeks ago. Mason was arrested at Carolinas Medical Center - Lincoln and taken to the Harven A. Crouse Detention Center under a $300 secured bond after being treated for a stab wound in the thigh. Authorities said Mason's injury wasn't life threatening.
