What's On Your Mind???

Dear Rescuers, Volunteers and Residents ~

We would like to thank you for the tremendous outpouring of assistance the past 10 days for "Operation Noah's Ark". This is the name of operation in which over 400 animals were seized at the private residence of Vicki Rauch in Denver, NC by the Lincoln County Animal Control/Sheriff's Department.

Last week, the SPCA Alliance was asked by the Lincoln County Sheriff's Department to help find volunteers and rescues to care for the animals who were seized. As far as the status of the situation at this point, as of yesterday (9/5/08) the Lincoln County Sheriff's Department has taken on a larger role and we (the SPCA Alliance) have transitioned our duties of taking calls and sending/replying to emails over to them.

Your response has been unbelievably overwhelming and has made a very difficult situation much easier to deal with during this time. You should all be very proud of your part in helping in this endeavor. The Lincoln County Sheriff's Department, American Humane Association, and the SPCA want to thank you for everything you have done to help. You will never know how much your time, hands-on help with the animals, and donations of supplies and money have meant.

Thursday, the Lincoln County DA's office gave the Sheriff's Department permission to release the remaining animals (dogs, cats and some rabbits) into foster care. For the past two days, the Lincoln County Sheriff's Department has been in the process of making preparations and arrangements for alternative housing for the remaining animals. By sometime next week, it is expected that all of the animals will be off-site an in foster care with rescue groups.

Unfortunately, since this case will most likely be going to trial, none of the animals are able to be adopted at this point. They are considered evidence and will remain in foster care with the rescues who have been called on to help by the Sheriff's Department.

If you have any questions, please contact the Lincoln County Animal Control / Sheriff's Department at 704-736-8517 or email: jkerley@lincolnsheriff.org .The Lincoln County Sheriff's Department web site is http://www.lincolnsheriff.org/ .

Again,we would like to thank everyone for their hard work and cooperation. This rescue effort would never have been possible without each of you.

Sincerely,
Ron Simons, Executive Director
Erin Powell, Board of Directors
