East Lincoln firefighters battled a
structure fire
Tuesday morning in the Smithstone
development.
Lincoln
County Family Escapes Housefire
By Jon Mayhew (Lincoln
County) -- A family escaped
their burning residence in eastern
Lincoln County early Tuesday morning, as
firefighters battled icy conditions from
fighting the fire.
Around 4am, firefighters were called to
the 2400 block of Smith Cove Road off
Highway 16. When they arrived, they
reported the structure was almost fully
involved in fire.
Family members told WSOC-TV the fire
started in the attic with the smoke
detectors not going off in the house. The
family was able to evacuate safely.
The American Red Cross is assisting the
family. As they sifted through the rubble
on Wednesday, the Tucker family
discovered their daughter's Christmas
present, a brand-new bicycle.
WSOC-TV reported it was their daughter's
first "big girl" bicycle. The
Tuckers also escaped their residence with
their wallet and pocketbook, as well as a
laptop computer.
Freezing temperatures caused part of
Smith Cove Road to ice over due to the
water used in fighting the blaze. The
Lincoln County Fire Marshal's Office is
investigating the blaze.
