SUSPECT
VERBALLY ASSAULTS OFFICERS
By Jon Mayhew
LINCOLNTON
Lincolnton Police officers Brandon
Hunsucker and Dan Renn discover a wanted
man while on patrol. And while the man is
being transported, the suspect tells
officers he wished more police officers
would be killed in the line of duty.
The officers saw Bobby Gene Smith Jr.,
41, of Gastonia, walking from a residence
on Lincoln Street with a woman.
We were told by dispatchers at the
communications center that Smith was
wanted for probation violation by the
South Carolina Division of parole,
said officer Renn. The dispatchers
also told us he had four outstanding
warrants from Gaston County, all for
violent crimes.
According to documentation with the
report, Smith was wanted for traffic,
assault and robbery crimes including
strong arm robbery; assault on a female;
communicating threats; and assault on a
law enforcement officer.
While officers were taking Smith to turn
him over to Gaston County, Renn said
Smith became verbally abusive to
officers.
He said he was glad to hear about
all the recent officers being killed and
he wanted to see more of it, said
Renn, adding he notated the comments in
his report for future officer safety.
