Small Child Seriously Injured In Apple Orchard Accident

LINCOLNTON -– An almost three year old child was injured this afternoon when she was struck by a farm trailer.

Detective 1st Sgt Lee Keller said the call came into the Communications Center at 5:20 p.m. about a child that had suffered an unknown injury. North Brook fire fighters and Lincoln County EMS arrived on the scene and asked for a Med Center Air helicopter to be dispatched.

Detective Keller said during the investigation detectives learned that a farm tractor with a farm trailer attached apparently came out of gear or was knocked out of gear and rolled back striking the child and knocking her underneath the trailer. Officers say the child was not struck by the wheel of the trailer.

The young Hispanic female was airlifted to Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte with possible life threatening injuries. The name of the young victim has not been released.

The accident occurred at Davis and Son Apple Orchards on North Highway 18 in western Lincoln County.
