BALLS CREEK -- Rachel “Sherlene” Hardin Sigmon, age 70, of Balls Creek Rd., Claremont passed away Thursday, July 02, 2009 at Palliative CareCenter & Hospice of Catawba Valley in Newton.

Born August 13, 1938 in Catawba County, she was the daughter of the late Laxton Burgin Hardin and the late Mary Grace Benfield Hardin. Mrs. Sigmon was a member of May’s Chapel United Methodist Church in Maiden. She was a homemaker and worked at Newton Glove and Ridgeview Hosiery.

In addition to her parents, her husband, Barnard D. Sigmon, two brothers, Demp Gant; Wayne Hardin and one sister, Jo Anne Hildebran preceded her in death.

Survivors include:

Son: Ronnie Sigmon and wife, Deborah of Claremont.

Daughter: Leigh Burns and husband, Terry of Catawba.

6 Grandchildren: Shawn Sigmon and special friend, Becky Kennon of Greensboro; Jason Sigmon and wife, Kristin of Clarksville, TN.; Byron Sigmon of Greensboro; Eric Burns of Denver; Daren Burns of Greensboro and Melissa Asbury and husband, Kevin of Winston Salem.

3 Great Grandchildren: Kody Sigmon; Addison and Luke Asbury.

The celebration of life service will be held Sunday, July 5, 2009 at 2:00 p.m. at May’s Chapel United Methodist Church in Maiden with Rev. Brad Thie and Rev. David Kelley officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

The family will receive friends Sunday, July 5, 2009 from 12:30-1:45 p.m. at May’s Chapel United Methodist Church in Maiden, prior to the service.

In Lieu of Flowers Memorials may be made to: Palliative CareCenter & Hospice of Catawba Valley, 3975 Robinson Rd., Newton, NC 28658 and/or May’s Chapel United Methodist Church, 1707 Mays Chapel Church Road, Maiden, NC 28650.

Burke Mortuary in Maiden is serving the Sigmon Family.
