INVESTIGATING MISUSE OF MEDICATION
By Jon Mayhew
Seroquel is used to stabilize patients
suffering from Bipolar Disorder. Police
are now investigating a case where a
student at Asbury School gave another
student the prescription medication.
Officer Billy Burgin responded to the
school Tuesday to investigate the case
that involved a 16-year-old male student
and a 15-year-old female student.
The Carolina Scoop isnt revealing
the names of the students because they
are juveniles.
The male student said he was given
the pills by the female student,
said Burgin, adding both students were
suspended from school for 10 days.
The male student actually took one pill
of the medicine. Burgins incident
report didnt indicate if the
student had to go to the hospital. The
parents of both students have been
notified of the incident.
According to the Web site
bipolar-lives.com, more than 222 people
worldwide suffer from Bipolar Disorder.
Nearly 6 million Americans suffer from
the mental condition thats
characterized by severe mood swings and
depression.
