BELL
RINGS FOR EAST MIDDLE NEXT SATURDAY
By Jon Mayhew DENVER
Students at one Lincoln
County School will be attending classes
on Saturday.
Special projects coordinator Belinda
Branson said East Lincoln Middle School
students will be attending classes until
noon Saturday, Feb. 28.
The make-up day is necessary
because the school was closed on Jan. 15
due to a water main break, said
Branson.
The water-line break was one of two
affecting east Lincoln last month.
While county water department supervisor
Steve Gilbert was supposed to notify
county officials of the water-break and
ensuing issues with four schools either
out of water or low water pressure,
county emergency management officials
learned of the problems four hours after
the second break from the school system.
We knew there was a leak the
afternoon of Jan. 14, said Gilbert
in an exclusive interview with The
Carolina Scoop. It got worse
overnight and became a break. The second
break happened around 8am.
According to emergency management
director Susan Spake, firefighters staged
at East Lincoln Middle during the day on
Jan. 14. LCS officials closed East
Lincoln Middle the next day due to no
water.
Branson said transportation and lunch
will be provided on the make-up day. For
