BE AWARE OF POSSIBLE SCAM IN LINCOLN COUNTY

LINCOLNTON -- The Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office is encouraging citizens to be on guard against possible scams in the area.

Detective Darrell Hutchens said he’s received one report of a Lincoln County resident receiving a call from a person claiming to be from “the water company.”

Scammers may call residences in the county or even go to a potential victim’s residence, according to Hutchens.

“If someone calls wanting personal information or wanting information on utilities, call the department the person claims to be from and double-check the legitimacy,” said Hutchens. “In other words, call to verify.”

Hutchens said this new scam falls in line with previous scams that have been reported in the past.

“It’s the same as the asphalt pavers and the roof painters,” said Hutchens.

Besides not giving away any personal information, Hutchens said it’s important to report the communication to the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office.

For more information, call Detective Darrell Hutchens at (704) 268-3044 or the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office at (704) 732-9050.
