DENVER
-- Brandie Clark smiles and laughs as she
cuts Sarah Cordoza's
hair. Cordoza has been one of Clark's
loyal clients since 2004.
There was a time that Clark left for
Florida in 2005 but returned in eight
months.
Cordoza said she missed Clark.
"When Brandie left, I unfortunately
had to go somewhere else," said
Cordoza, a Denver resident. "When
Brandie came back to Denver, I
started going to Salon Genesis
again."
Clark is a salon veteran, having cut and
styled hair for the past ten years.
Over time, she's always wanted to own her
own salon.
"I put a lot of thought into opening
my own salon," said Clark, who took
the
plunge two years ago and opened Salon
Genesis. "My grandmother did
hair and my aunt did hair. It's something
I've always been interested in
doing."

For the
past two years, Clark has operated Salon
Genesis, which is
currently located in Rockerfeller Center
on Highway 16. Clark said she's
learned valuable lessons from working in
other salons.
"Wherever I worked, I watched what
was going on around me," said Clark.
"I learned what to do and what not
to do."
Clark cited that some salons do things
that may be viewed as "a little
overdone."
"One salon I was at, the owner was
really hard on her girls," said
Clark. "I
decided then that I didn't want to be
like that."
Upon seeing a new client for the first
time, Clark and her staff assess each
client to see what cut is right for that
particular customer. In other words,
one-size cut doesn't fit all.
"Not everyone is suited for the
popular helix cut," said Clark.
"People with
thinner hair aren't right for that cut.
The condition and health of the hair are
two determining factors whether or not a
client is right for that type of
cut."
Clark's most popular services are the
color, shampoo and cut and style.
Her older clients, meantime, prefer
getting perms.

Besides
providing a wide-range of services, Clark
has built an impressive
client list. It's more than the cut at
Salon Genesis.
"When I left my last salon, my
clients followed me to my salon,"
said Clark.
"We've had to move a couple of times
and my loyal customers have
followed me. Many clients have been with
me since I've started doing hair
and that's been a long time."
Besides cuts, Clark's Salon Genesis
(named biblically, after the first book
of the bible), offers waxing, perms and
colors. Very soon, Clark will add a
nail technician.
"Genesis means the beginning, and
the salon is a new beginning for
me,"
said Clark.
Clark's staff includes Paulanne Dollar,
who is a stylist and a licensed
barber; Laura Mott, who specializes in
hair color; Angela Black, who will
soon be the new nail technicnan; and
Heather Bryson, who specializes in
different cuts.
Stylist Heather Bryson has been working
with Clark for the past four years
and said Salon Genesis is more than a
group of stylists.
"We're just one big happy
family," said Bryson.
