RESIDENTS FIGHT BACK AGAINST ARMED INTRUDERS

LINCOLNTON -- Authorities are currently searching for three suspects in connection with an attempted home invasion that happened Monday night.

Police were called to a residence on Sycamore Street around 11:15 p.m. after being told the suspects -- wearing bandanas over their faces -- tried to gain entry to the residence.

Lt. Dwight Shehan with Lincolnton Police said one of the victim's was able to get to police, but not by telephone.

"One of the victim's ran out the back door and came to report the incident at the police department," said Shehan.

The people inside the home saw the suspects coming up to the front door, according to Shehan. And the people inside the house started to open the door.

Shehan said they realized the suspects were armed and slammed the door. The suspects did leave a piece of evidence behind.

"A shoe fell off one of the suspects," said Shehan. "It fell inside the door and the victims kept it."

The investigation is ongoing and Shehan said arrests are expected.
