Recreation and Parks

Sunday, July 13th. The summer vacation season is at its height, and across the country Americans are indulging in their favorite outdoor activities — from hiking and rock climbing to swimming and boating, or just enjoying the scenery. From Florida to Alaska and everywhere in between, millions of us will have fun in the many federal and local parks and recreation areas in every state in the union. To highlight this marvelous resource, this is National Recreation and Parks Month. There are more than 84 million acres of national parks and nearly 14 million acres of state facilities. These areas draw a combined total of just under a billion visitors annually. That’s more than three visits each year for every person in the U.S.
