GOOD SAMARITANS CATCH ROBBER IN
SOUTH CHARLOTTE
CHARLOTTE -- Good Samaritans
helped police catch a robbery suspect near
Freedom Park early Wednesday.
Officers said an activity bus driver was sitting
on the stairs of the bus in the Dilworth area
park when a man approached her shortly after 10
a.m. The man stole her bank card and then pushed
her, and she fell and hit her head.
The bus driver had brought children to the park
for a football camp run by Carolina Panthers
player Brad Hoover. Two fathers watching the
football practice on a nearby field heard the
woman's screams and chased after the man they saw
running from the scene.
The men and a homeowner helped police find the
suspect in a neighboring yard. Jo Anne Lee, who
was working from home, said she looked up to see
a man running right past her window.
"He ran and he stopped because he knew he
couldn't get into the park because then he'd be
too visible, so he was kind of crouching and
hiding in the woods for a little bit," she
said.
Police have the suspect in custody and said he
will likely be charged with robbery. His name has
not yet been released
