SEVERAL LINCOLN
REPORTS OF PRICE GOUGING
By Jon Mayhew
LINCOLNTON There were minor
accidents Friday afternoon across East Main
Street in Lincolnton, as people made gassing up
their cars a destination. That was in advance of
Hurricane Ike making landfall around 3:10am
Saturday according to the National Weather
Service. There were also at least two fistfights
reported at the Raceway in front of Food Lion,
which quickly ran out of gas Friday afternoon.
Saturday, residents thoughts are turning to
the question of price gouging and which stations
look guilty. One station reportedly raised gas
prices more than $1 in less than 5 hours Friday.
N.C. Attorney General Roy Cooper encourages
consumers who have complaints about price gouging
to visit the Consumer Protection Section of the
N.C. Department of Justice Web site at www.ncdoj.gov and download a
price gouging complaint form. You can fill out
the form and mail it back to:
Consumer Protection Division
NC Attorney General's Office
9001 Mail Service Center
Raleigh, NC 27699-9001
You can also call the Consumer Protection line at
1-877-5-NOSCAM.
Also see the gas tracker on the left-side of The
Carolina Scoop Web site for up-to-date
information on gas prices.
