Public
Awareness Will Help Prevent Vehicle
Break-ins
Especially
During the Christmas Shopping Season
Black Friday,
the day after Thanksgiving that typically
kicks off the Christmas Shopping season,
is just around the corner and the
following tips can help make you and your
family safer during the holidays and
throughout the year.
- As a
precaution, always check inside
your vehicle before getting in it
and be watchful that you are not
being followed going from the
store or ATM machine back to your
vehicle.
- When
shopping be sure you park in a
secure and well-lit area and
always lock your vehicle.
- Keep
packages and other valuables in
your vehicle out of sight. Lock
packages, gifts, and other
valuables in the trunk.
- Travel
and shop with companions when
possible during the daytime as
well as at night there is safety
in numbers.
Lincoln County has been hit by a
number of vehicle break-ins in
2008 and many of the illegal
entries were to unlocked
vehicles. Here are some more
rules to follow throughout the
year.
- Dont
leave your car running and
unoccupied when shopping or in
your driveway.
- Install
anti-theft devices such as a
locking device for your steering
wheel or an ignition cut off
device. A car alarm is a
deterrent and will detect an
attempt to break into your
vehicle
- Keep
your registration in a secure
location in the car. Keep your
title at home or in a safe
deposit box.
- While
driving remember to keep your
doors locked at all times and
never pick up hitchhikers.
- And
most of all never leave personal
identification in your vehicle.
Follow
these rules and you will not be the
likely target of criminals during the
holiday season or all year long.
