NEWTON WOMAN ARRESTED
AFTER TRAFFIC STOP

LINCOLNTON A
Newton woman is jailed in Lincoln County
after authorities say she tried to
destroy evidence during a traffic stop.
According to the arrest report, Erica
Person was stopped on Highway 321 in
Lincoln County Sunday morning just after
midnight.
Lt. Dwite Shehan stopped Person due to
careless and reckless driving.
Shehans report indicated Person
consented to a search of her vehicle.
Shehan said he found a spoon wrapped in
plastic. Upon further inspection, the
spoon was found to contain meth
amphetamine residue.
Person was taken to the Harven A. Crouse
Detention Center on charges of DWI;
possession of a controlled substance;
possession of drug paraphernalia;
attempting to alter or destroy criminal
evidence; and careless and reckless
driving.
She was jailed under a $4,000 secured
bond with a first appearance hearing
scheduled for Monday in Lincolnton
district court.
As of Sunday afternoon, Person was still
in jail.
