Signs are clearly marked “Watch for Pedestrians” along the Court Square and in crosswalks throughout Main Street in downtown Lincolnton.

However, one driver did not seem to heed the advice.
A driver of a white SUV has been cited for striking a pedestrian on the north side of Court Square and North Aspen Street just before noon.

Lincolnton Police officer Richard Harrington said he witnessed the incident around 11:45am.

“I was coming out of the Courthouse,” said Harrington.

The driver was cited for striking the pedestrian. The victim was taken to Carolinas Medical Center Lincoln with non-life threatening injuries according to police.

Officers said the driver of the SUV looked both ways before pulling through the intersection. They said he didn’t look to the right a second time and the victim stepped through the cross walk.

The outer loop of north Court Square was temporarily blocked for authorities to tend to the victim and for Officer Harrington to investigate the incident.

The pedestrian is expected to be OK.

The investigation continued as of Wednesday afternoon.
