DEPUTIES SEE PARAGLIDER TIED UP
ON CATAWBA RIVER

DENVER –
Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office lake patrol deputies John Isaacks and Bruce White admit they made a rare discovery Sunday afternoon in the Catawba River near Duke Energy.

“It’s not every day you see a paraglider in the water,” said White.

Around 5:15pm Sunday, the Lincoln County Communications Center was notified there was a paraglider in the Catawba River at the Highway 73 Bridge. Initially, the incident was called out as a fuel spill to the East Lincoln Fire Department but it was determined no fuel spilled in the river.

Deputies White and Isaacks were called to the scene to assist firefighters in looking for the owner of the machine. Duke Energy shut down the water so authorities could search.

Members of the East Lincoln Fire Department, the Lincoln County Sheriff's Office, and Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police searched for the owner of a paraglider found in the Catawba River Sunday.

The Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office, members of the East Lincoln Fire Department and Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police made a search for the owner with no success.

Deputies White and Isaacks said it appeared the paraglider had crashed after part of a propeller broke off.

Authorities found a helmet in the two-seater paraglider.

The paraglider was taken off the water and set on land.
