ARREST MADE IN SECOND MURDER OF 2009

CROUSE -- An altercation between two men who had been drinking on Thursday afternoon led to a stabbing that left a man dead, making the incident Lincoln County's second murder of 2009. Sheriff's deputies were dispatched around 7:30pm.

Seven East Lincoln High School band students participated in the UNC Greensboro Carolina Band Festival.  The participants had the extraordinary opportunity to be under the direction of one the most prolific composers in wind band music today, Dr. Frank Ticheli, Professor of Composition at the Thorton School of Music at the University of Southern California, and one of the most successful and outstanding collegiate conductors in the country, Dr. Eric Wilson, Director of Bands at Baylor University in Waco, Texas.

Ten North Lincoln High School Band students were selected to attend the Regional Honors Band Clinic at UNC-Greensboro on February 19th thru February 21st.  During this clinic, the students were given the opportunity to work with internationally known composer Frank Tichelli.

WOMAN FINDS INTRUDER ARMED WITH KNIFE

A woman wakes up early Wednesday morning and finds an unwelcome visitor, armed with a weapon.

Around 6:20am, the victim told police officer Dwayne McAllister she awoke to find a man standing over her with a knife. The incident happened at a rsidence on Garrison Lane off Country Club Road.

Opera Carolina, the largest opera company in the Carolinas, is taking a new approach for its production of Mozart’s The Marriage of Figaro. For the season’s third operatic performance, Opera Carolina is planning a new approach for the traditional stage that will create a new engaging setup for the audience to experience. The Marriage of Figaro will be played in a semi-thrust, theatrical style, which is a special style compared to traditional setups.

The players of Mozart's comedy will be on what is normally the orchestra pit, performing the opera at arms length to the audience. The orchestra will be mid-stage, sometimes revealed to the

VEGETABLE GARDENING
FOR BEGINNERS

With the increasing interest in local food, it seems like a lot of people are interested in raising a small vegetable garden for the first time. There are three programs planned in which you may be interested. The first one is being sponsored by Daniel Stowe Botanic Garden in Belmont. I’ll be speaking on the topic, “The Vegetable Garden You Always Wanted.” The program will he held at the garden from 1:00 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. on Saturday, March 14. The cost is $5 for members and $7 for non-members. You can register on the garden’s website at
