Water Safe
After
Sewer Overflow

By
Jon Mayhew (Catawba County) -- Hickory
city officials said Tuesday the water in
the city is safe to drink after a sewer
overflow Christmas Day. Spokesperson
Mandy Pitts said about 36,000 of sanitary
sewer overflow happened about 11am
December 25.
Heavy rains of about two inches fell in
about a 24-hour period, causing the sewer
overflow. No problems were reported,
meantime, in Lincoln County.
The overflow at the Northeast Wastewater
Treatment Plant discharged into Falling
Creek of the Catawba River basin. The
Mooresville Regional Office of the
Division of Water Quality was notified,
and the spill had no negative impact on
the environment.
