OUTSIDE FIRE SPREADS TO PORCH

Pumpkin Center firefighters put out a grass fire that spread to a house off Amity Church Road early Wednesday morning.

By Jon Mayhew (PUMPKIN CENTER) -- Pumpkin Center firefighters were called to a residence in the 800 block of Homestead Lane to reports a grass fire spread to a residence.

Around 1:15am Wednesday, radio traffic indicated the grass fire started in the backyard of the home off Amity Church Road in eastern Lincoln County.

Authorities on-scene told The Carolina Scoop a discarded cigarette started the blaze that burned a small portion of the back porch.

No injuries were reported. The Lincoln County Fire Marshal’s Office was called to the residence to investigate.
