THE CAROLINA SCOOP CELEBRATES RIBBON CUTTING,
GRAND OPENING
Celebrates five months in "print" on
Wednesday
Staff Reports
LINCOLNTON -- Two milestones were
celebrated by staff of The Carolina Scoop this
past week.
First, Lincoln County's fastest growing online
newspaper celebrated five months in
"print" on Wednesday, Sept. 10. Then,
on Thursday, staff members of The Carolina Scoop,
community leaders and members of the business
community celebrated the grand opening/ribbon
cutting at Melamoose Scoops and Java on East Main
Street in Lincolnton.
"We're thrilled to be a part of this,"
said Lincolnton/Lincoln County Chamber of
Commerce board chairman John Dancoff. "I
click on the Web site every day. And like Sgt.
Willie Vaughn said, The Carolina Scoop is faster
than gossip and more reliable."
Publisher Jon Mayhew said it was a "no
brianer" when to start an online newspaper
and where to start it. Mayhew told the more than
40 people on hand that Lincolnton was a great
place to live, work and play.

"I knew that we wanted The Carolina Scoop to
be here," said Mayhew. "We love
Lincolnton and Lincoln County and are committed
to the community."
Mayhew added he was thinking of starting his own
newspaper a couple of years ago, while working
for another Lincoln County newspaper.
"There's freedom in working for yourself,
especially when producing a newspaper," said
Mayhew. "Our plans are to exclusively stay
online and provide real-time news for our
readers."
General Manager Elizabeth Mayhew was touched by
the outpouring of community support shown to The
Carolina Scoop.
"I'd like to thank everyone for being
here," said Elizabeth Mayhew. "We
appreciate your support. Keep reading The
Carolina Scoop."

Besides
"christening" Lincoln County's newest
newspaper, the grand opening was also designed to
give attendees a look at many of the offerings of
Melamoose Scoops and Java, a proud sponsor of The
Carolina Scoop.
Hunt Brother's Pizza, along with sandwiches and
tea, were served during the event.
"The turnout was way better than I
expected," said Melamoose co-owner Sharon
Funderburk, adding Melamoose does catering. See
their ad on the left panel of The Carolina Scoop.
