CHARLOTTE
-- Utilizing information during
an intense three-week investigation,
Lincolnton Police and the Charlotte
Mecklenburg Violent Criminals
Apprehension Team (VCAT) worked together
to capture a Lincolnton shooting suspect.
Around
11am Wednesday, Rahim Oates was taken
into custody at an apartment in North
Charlotte, according to Lincolnton Police
Sgt. Matt Painter.
In an
exclusive video on The Carolina Scoop,
Painter said Oates was asleep at the time
of his capture.
Oates
was transferred from Charlotte
Mecklenburg Police custody to Lincolnton
Police custody around 3pm Wednesday. The
teenager is charged with attempted first
degree murder and assault with a deadly
weapon with intent to kill inflicting
serious injury.
The
shooting happened at Anthony Robinson's
Magnolia Street residence on Dec. 17
after Robinson received a telephone call,
asking him to step outside on the porch.
Neighbors
told police they heard about five shots.
Robinson was struck four times and taken
to Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte
with life-threatening injuries including
wounds to the neck, face and chest.
Witnesses
also told police a black male, believed
now to be Oates, was seen running from
the scene down Edwards Street.
"Oates
stayed in Charlotte for about three
weeks," said Painter, adding the
motive for the shooting appears to be
related to an argument the pair had only
days before the shooting.
Bond for
Oates was set at $1 million secured. He
