NORTH BROOK -- The North Carolina
Highway Patrol is investigating a bizzare Sunday
night accident that claimed the life of a woman.
The accident happened around 11:15 p.m. on Ed
Willis Road off Highway 274. A tree had fallen
across the roadway from severe thunderstorms that
passed through the area Sunday night; the woman
didn't see the tree across the roadway in time to
be able to stop.

According to NCHP trooper S. Boyles, the woman
ran under the tree while it was entangled in
power lines. The force of the accident sheared
the top of the woman's vehicle completely off,
with the vehicle coming to rest about 50 feet
from the tree. She was pronounced dead at the
scene but not decapitated from the force of the
wreck.
"She died of blunt force tramua," said
Boyles. The victim's name couldn't be released
pending notification of next of kin.
Ed Willis Road was blocked at the site of the
accident for more than an hour. North Brook
Firefighters used tools off their brush truck to
get the tree out of the roadway. The State
Department of Transportation will have to remove
the debris.
More than 40 people were in the dark in North
Brook when the tree fell across the road. Duke
Power was on the scene very early Monday morning,
working to restore power.
