Lincolnton Celebrates National
Night Out

-- Porch lights across
Lincolnton will be lit Tuesday
night for the annual
commemeration of National Night
Out.
Lincolnton Police have lined up
12 block parties to visit this
year as opposed to the 10 parties
lined up last year.
The block parties are on Julia
Drive; Oaklawn; Mockingbird Lane;
Pine Street; Cardinal Care;
Leewood Acres; Newcastle Avenue;
Deaton Avenue; Bonview Avenue;
Crestview; Carter Street; and 321
North Oak. Newcastle's
celebration starts at 6:45 p.m.
"It's a way for the
community and police to get
together to promote crime
prevention and safety," said
Lincolnton Police Lt. Kent
Lukach, who is the Lincolnton
Police Department's crime
education and prevention officer.
According to the Web site,
www.nationaltownwatch.org, more
than 10,000 communities in all 50
states participated in the
National Night Out 2007. National
Night Out is designed to heighten
crime and drug prevention
awareness; generate support for
and participation in local
anticrime programs; strengthen
neighborhood spirit and
police-community partnerships;
and send a message to crminals,
letting them know neighborhoods
are organized and fighting back.
