BURNING QUESTION SURROUNDS MOPED

LINCOLNTON – Did Chad Lee Cagle of Mount Holly sell his moped to a Lincolnton man or not? That’s the question surrounding an incident that started Friday around 12:45pm.

Cagle came to the Police Department and talked to Officer Jimmy Barlowe in reference to getting his moped back. Cagle said he wrecked his moped the night before at an address on North Grove Street.

“Mr. Cagle provided information that showed he was the owner of the moped,” said Barlowe.

Barlowe went to two residences on South Grove Street and was told Cagle and Lee Street resident Lance Allen had pushed the moped away.

As Barlowe was leaving, he was flagged down by Cagle who said he found his moped at Allen’s Lee Street address. Barlowe said he found the moped lying in the yard.

About 30 minutes after Cagle took the moped away in his pickup truck, Allen and another man came to the Police Department to report Allen had paid Cagle an undisclosed amount of money the night before for the moped.

Around 3pm, police received reports of Cagle trying to sell a moped at Huitt Motorsports on North Aspen Street. Ted Huss told the suspect he wasn’t buying the moped and ordered Cagle to leave the store.

Cagle put the moped behind the store, which was later picked up by Allen according to the incident report.

Cagle wrecked his moped last Thursday night and was transported to Carolinas Medical Center Lincoln. Police were also called at 7:30am upon Cagle’s release from the hospital.

Lincoln EMS again transported Cagle Friday around 5:20pm, where he was complaining of chest pains from the original moped incident.

Police said the case is a civil matter.
