MAN TASED BY POLICE

By Jon Mayhew

LINCOLNTON -- A Lincolnton man lunges at police in the police department parking lot and is tased by authorities.

The family of Mark Todd McManus, 40, of Pine Street were on their way home from a party, being driven by a friend, when McManus became aggressive with his wife and son.

The four pulled into the parking lot of the Lincolnton Police Department at the corner of East Main and Flint Streets, where officers Sgt. Jeremy Wilson and Lt. Dwite Shehan responded to the family.

Police were told by the vehicle's owner to get McManus out of the vehicle.

Several requests of McManus were made to exit the vehicle, with McManus not complying. Officers had to literally pull McManus out of the vehicle.

Officers then tried to arrest McManus and that's when he fought them.

According to the incident report at the Lincolnton Police Department, McManus struggled with the officers and was tasered twice for a total of 10 seconds. Lincoln EMS was called -- per police department procedure -- to remove the probes from McManus.

McManus was cited for resisting arrest and given a court date of Dec. 10, 2008.
