assaulting mother

A 24-year-old Bynum Road man is arrested for assaulting his mother.

Officers found Matthew Broome in the 200 block of South Poplar Street around 4:20pm Wednesday. Sgt. Willie Vaughn arrested Broome on charges of assaulting a female.

Broome was taken to the Lincoln County Magistrate's Office, where Magistrate P. Beal gave Broome an $800 unsecured bond. Broome was then released from custody.

It's not the first time Broome has been in trouble with the law. Known to Lincolnton Police, Broome has been previously arrested for harassing phone calls, larceny and communicating threats.

Broome's next court appearance on the latest charge is April 6.
