WOMAN
TRIES TO RUN DOWN MOTEL MANAGER
By Jon Mayhew
LINCOLNTON -- A Victory Grove Church
Road woman is arrested after
she tries to run over a motel manager with her
own car.
The incident happened over the weekend at the
Carolina Motel at 306 N.
Generals Boulevard. Motel manager and owner P.
Patel told police officer
Sgt. Willie Vaughn that he was working at the
motel when Mary Watts, 79,
drove up in her car.
Watts, according to Patel, had been banned from
the property for
previously causing a disturbance. After Patel
ordered Watts to leave the
property, Patel said Watts tried to run over him
with her car.
"When I arrived at the scene, I pulled up
next to Mary's car," said Vaughn.
"She said 'you're probably here to get
me',"
Watts was taken to the Magistrate's Office, where
she was given a $500
unsecured bond on charges of second degree
trespass and simple
assault. Her next appearance in court is set for
Oct. 28.
It wasn't the last run-in with law enforcement
over the weekend, however,
for Watts. She reportedly had to be dealt with by
deputies later Saturday
night in western Lincoln County.
Authorities said over the weekend the next time
Watts caused a
disturbance, she would most likely be placed in
jail.
