VALE –
Mary Adeline Smith Johnson, 93, passed away on July 1, 2009 at Summit Place in Little River, SC.

Born July 13, 1915 in Vale, NC, she was a daughter of the late William O. and Ida Houser Smith.

For over 40 years Mrs. Johnson was a teacher in the Burke County and Catawba County schools. She taught at Banoak, Mt. View, Hildebran and Blackburn schools and served as Principal at Hildebran School.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Marshall Woodrow Johnson.

Survivors include a daughter, Alice Iodice and husband, Art, of Longs, SC; grandson, John Robert Banks and wife, Tina, of Vale; great-grandchildren, Christopher Dalton Banks and John Marshall Banks both of Vale; sisters-in-law, Thelma Cordell of Charlotte and Betty Hefner and husband, Bill, of Hickory; and numerous nieces and nephews.

The celebration of life service will be held at 2 p.m. on Sunday, July 5th at Trinity Lutheran Church in Vale with Pastor John Locke officiating. Mrs. Johnson will lie in state one-hour prior to the service.

The family will receive friends from 6 – 8 p.m. on Saturday, July 4th at Catawba Funerals & Cremations.
