MAIDEN MAN CHARGED WITH SEX CRIMES

MAIDEN -- A Maiden man faces four felony charges of sexual assault involving a child.

Lincoln County Sheriff's Detective Steve Grinnell identified the suspect as Jay Warren Smith, 47, Graystone Lane. Smith is charged with statutory rape involving a juvenile; indecent liberties with a minor; sell or deliver a controlled substance to a minor; and intercourse by a guardian.

The victim in the case was 13 years old when the incidents occurred in October and November 2007.

Smith was picked up at the Cabarrus County Jail and taken before a Lincoln County Magistrate. He was placed in the Harven A. Crouse Detention Center under a $165,000 secured bond.
