By Jon Mayhew

LINCOLNTON -- The Lincoln County Airport manager continues to recover Sunday from a plane crash last week in Gaston County.

Jeff Lynn had just taken off from the Mauney Field Airstrip south of Cherryville Wednesday when his plane went down. Lynn was able to call 911 and report he was in a plane crash and badly injured. The incident happened around 3 p.m.

Lynn was airlifted to Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte and was expected to have surgery Friday for two broken legs and a broken hip.

Meanwhile, the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) is still investigating why Lynn's plane crashed.

Lynn has been airport manager since 1997. At the time of the crash, he was overseeing a major expansion of the hangers at the Lincoln County Airport.

Over the weekend, a CMC Charlotte hospital spokesperson said Lynn was in critical condition.
