-- Tense moments for authorities
Friday starting around 5:20pm, as a 911
hangup call turns into a standoff that
lasted for about two-and-a-half hours.
In the
end, the Lincoln County Tactical Response
Team -- also known as the TAC team -- was
able to make entry into a Long Shoals
Road residence and take Dustin Scott
Caldwell, 25, into custody.

knife.
Authorities
were first told the incident was a
hostage situation; however, the female
that lived in the residence with Caldwell
was able to leave and go to a neighbor's
residence.

The TAC
team used two tear gas canisters,
followed by a flash bang, to make entry
into the residence and apprehend
Caldwell. During the standoff,
authorities said Caldwell threatened to
take his own life. No one was injured in
arrest. A decision was made to enter the
residence after negotiations broke down.

Caldwell
was transported to the Lincoln County
Magistrates Office where he was
served warrants for communicating
threats; assault with a deadly weapon;
and second degree kidnapping. Bonds on
the charges total $32,000 and Caldwell
has a first appearance hearing set for
Monday in Lincolnton District Court.
Lincoln
County EMS, South Fork Fire Department
and the Command Post were dispatched to
the scene to stand by at South Fork Fire
Department.
