LINCOLNTON --
The Carolina Scoop has learned
there has been a recent change at the
North Carolina Department of Corrections
facility in Lincolnton.
According to longtime employee Tim
Scronce, the prison recently became a
minimum security facility.
Scronce is the correctional case manager
and volunteer coordinator for the
Lincolnton Department of Corrections.

For
many years, the guard tower was occupied
at the Lincolnton DOC facility. Since the
prison is now minimum security, the tower
sits empty.
The inmates
that are here are within five years of
being released, said Scronce.
Besides housing felons, now people
convicted of misdemeanors are housed at
the Lincolnton facility.
The Lincolnton Department of Corrections
currently houses 202 inmates. Recent
closures of prisons across the state mean
some inmates will be relocating to
Lincolnton.
Well get some of the
prisoners from the Shelby facility,
said Scronce. Some of the inmates
here would be moving east.
After working at the
Lincolnton facility for more than 19
years, Scronce said he is still amazed at
one statement he frequently hears on the
street.
"Many people
here don't realize there is a prison
facility in Lincolnton," said
Scronce.

Corrections
employee Tim Scronce said many people do
not realize there is a state prison in
Lincolnton. The facility has been around
for more than 50 years.
