- Lena Josephine Carrigan
Killian of Maiden, NC passed peacefully
away, surrounded by her loving family and
friends on July 4th at 2:30 AM at Conover
Rehab and Nursing in Conover, NC.
She was lifted up in prayers and
singing as she was given over into the
hands of God.
Daughter of the late John and Molly Smith
Carrigan, she was born on May 10, 1919 in
Alexander County.
Lena was the beloved wife of the late
Earl C. Killian and cherished mother to
Billy J. Parlier of Morganton, Cherie
Berry of Newton, Patricia Deaton of
Newton and Earl C. Killian, Jr. of
Charlotte. She was preceded in
death by a baby son, Bobby Gene Parlier,
three sisters, and two brothers.
Left behind with many fond memories of
their loving grandmother are five
grandchildren: Kimberlee Taylor,
Stephanie Taylor, Candice Hawkins, Lisa
Koperski, and Billy J. Parlier II.
Lena also delighted in her five great
grandchildren, Brooke Hawkins, Jacob
Koperski, Cias Hawkins, Tony Koperski,
and Corey Parlier as well as her beloved
brother, George Buck Carrigan
and many cherished nieces and
nephews.
Endowed with strong Christian faith and
the gift of hospitality, her door was
always open to friends and family for
whatever they might need, be it help with
a project, a sympathetic ear or just a
good home-cooked meal. Her career
as a seamstress and sample clothing maker
and her love of crafts made excellent use
of her extensive sewing talents and
creative eye.
Lena had been an avid painter with her
landscapes gracing the walls of her
childrens homes. She loved
shopping, going places and working in her
yard. She also loved to dance.
In 2007, approx. six hundred people
at the Carolina Star Conference in
Greensboro had the pleasure of seeing
Lena dance with her daughter,
Commissioner of Labor, Cherie Berry.
Lena was a faithful member of Living Word
Church in Maiden, NC.
Services will be held Tuesday, July 7,
2009 at 3:00 PM at Goodin-Drum Funeral
Home in Maiden, NC. The family will
receive friends from 2:00 -3:00 PM.
The burial will follow at Maiden
City Cemetery beside her beloved husband,
Earl.
The family invites all who knew and loved
her to celebrate her life with them and
requests that contributions be made to

A fond thank you to Conover Rehab and
Nursing for blessing Lenas life
with caring angels such as Sonia Ruff,
Shirley Baker, Tawanna, April, Crystal,
Sarah, Christy, Angie, Charlie, Bea, and
Mary and many others too numerous to
mention. Also Caldwell Hospice team
for comfort and help in her last days.
